Reflection:
The project completed for this standard was the strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats analysis. This analysis concentrates on ISTE’s eight essential conditions to analyze Darlington School’s current state of technology to make recommendations for improvement.
Standard 1.2, Strategic Planning, states that candidates facilitate the design, development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans. By completing the SWOT Analysis, I obtained a better understanding of how to design and implement a technology plan for Darlington School. By taking each of the essential conditions and applying them to my schools current technology state, I was able to help the school develop a technology plan of action.
This project helped me to become familiar with ISTE’s eight essential conditions. One example that really helped me was “Ongoing Professional Learning.” By breaking this essential condition down to the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, I was able to analyze the current state of our professional development and develop a plan for our future. Darlington School now has a strong professional development program and I am currently working with our web developers to develop a tracking program so that our teachers can track their professional development attendance.
Also with this project I was able to take the school’s current technology plan, school improvement plan, and the current technology device inventory to complete the strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats matrix. After analyzing the data and devising a plan for Darlington School I was able to use this information to communicate with administrators to improve our current state of technology and professional development. In this meeting with administrators, I was able to recommend that we focus on creating a more concrete professional development plan such as an online training program and in house workshops that focus in on digital tools for the classroom. Even though Darlington School has a strong professional development program, to create a more concrete in-house program would not only save money but also allow faculty to attend more training that is focused on Darlington’s specific needs.
