Reflection:
The content area report shows mastery of standard 2.1 which is to model and facilitate the design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences aligned with student content standards and student technology standards. The content area report was completed in the course of 21st Century Teaching and Learning. The purpose of this artifact was to present ideas for middle school history teachers to differentiate their classroom with technology integration.
The purpose of the content report is help teachers to gain an understanding on how to facilitate technology-enhanced classroom environments. The presentation lists several resources that teachers can use to align their curriculum with technology as well as the Georgia Performance Standards. One example is giving teachers ideas for different ways to present. Many students have grown tired of creating presentations with PowerPoint. One example suggested the content report was to have students create a comic strip of a historical figure with ComicLife. Another example is to have the student explain how the Interstate Highway System, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Georgia’s deep-water ports, and the railroads help drive the state’s economy by visiting the VoiceThread or LittleBirdTales website. They can create slides and use their own voice to narrate what they learned. I chose these tools because they are not only new and exciting but also very user friendly so teachers and students would not feel so intimidated to use them for the first time. By creating this content report presentation, I was able to test out many tools and resources to assist teachers with new ideas for technology integration.
This assignment was completed very early in my graduate studies and completing this kind of assignment was new to me. Although I have been doing technology integration for a long time, this assignment helped me to research and present new ideas that aligned with standards for both technology and history. It allowed me to seek out new tools as well as tools I had used before and research how they could be used in the history classroom to align with the standards.
This presentation was used to encourage teachers by showing them how easy the tools are to use in their classroom as well as giving them new ideas, such as ComicLife, iMovie, and Web 2.0 tools that they can use to engage their students in their content. The tools and websites listed in this content report were meant to provide fun, easy and nontraditional ideas for teaching history in a new way by integrating technology at the same time.
