Reflection:
The artifact for this standard is the emerging technology project that was created for ITEC 7430 in spring of 2012. For standard 3.1 Classroom Management & Collaborative Learning, candidates model and facilitate effective classroom management and collaborative learning strategies to maximize teacher and student use of digital tools and resources. This artifact required research of new technologies and digital tools that would enhance classroom instruction.
This artifact shows mastery of the standard because I was able to research many different new technologies and analyze them for use at Darlington School. Since our school had launched a successful one to one program we needed tools that would enhance that program. I chose the Apple TV to test and research to see how it could help our program to be more successful.
I was able to show that by purchasing Apple TVs for every classroom, which would attach to their SmartBoard, it would create a more differentiated classroom. By using the Apple TVs, teachers are able to project their iPads and MacBooks wirelessly which will address visual and auditory needs that supports student learning. By being able to project wirelessly, teachers could move around the room seamlessly while projecting to assist students. Since the teacher was no longer wired to the SmartBoard, they could create groups of collaboration and authentic learning.
This project really impacted technology use at my school. I was able to get the funding while researching this project for two Apple TVs. I placed them in the classrooms of teachers that were technology advanced and asked them for their feedback. By allowing these teachers to use them, and successfully, I was able to show administrators of the school how it increased engagement by allowing every student to connect to the SmartBoard at a moment’s notice to show their work creating a diverse and collaborative classroom. The administrators agreed and budgeted the next year to purchase this device for every classroom that had a SmartBoard.
